Profile
About me
Civil engineering M.Eng. student at McMaster University. Pronouns: he/him.
My full name is Yizhuo (Gavin) Chen. I'm currently studying Civil Engineering in the Master of Engineering program at McMaster University, after completing my Civil Engineering Co-op undergraduate degree at McMaster.
Most of my work sits somewhere between civil engineering, project coordination, construction management, data organization, and the tools that help make complex information easier to understand.
Engineering and work
My civil engineering background has been shaped by both academic design work and field experience. During my 16-month Construction Inspector Co-op with the Region of Peel, I worked around municipal infrastructure projects involving watermain, sanitary sewer, stormwater, pressure testing, field reporting, contractor coordination, and communication with project teams and residents.
I have also worked in teaching and student support roles at McMaster, including as a Teaching Assistant for Construction Management and Automation, where I helped students work through scheduling methods, critical path analysis, and Microsoft Project.
Outside engineering
A lot of my personal energy goes into films, media reviews, running, dragon boat, outdoor activities, and following the Toronto Blue Jays. I like keeping records of what I watch, what I train for, and what I care about, partly because those records help me understand myself over time.
The review side of this site can include films, music, games, books, and other cultural experiences. The sports side can hold running, dragon boat, race notes, training logs, and outdoor memories.
